The initial idea

As we got introduced to our next topic, I got to brainstorm different possibilities for a zine. My initial idea was to create a 3D pop up zine. I thought it would challenge me and help me out of my comfort zone. My idea explored the concept of individuality and straying away from the normative approach of measuring ourselves through superficial and materialistic things, like money, popularity, or followers.

I also decided to narrate my idea using fairytales, and adding a twist to it, by using the metaphors within them to convey broader ideas. The fold I planed on using was the accordion fold.

I decided to incorporate poetry into this project, too and went ahead and wrote a poem in reference to my zine:

i often find myself walking down the yellow brick road

wandering emerald cities, searching for places to call home 

I’ve been flying senseless on my magic carpet, 

Soaring past mythical kingdoms and enchanted forests

I climb beanstalks that stand tall and high

Rising up, seeking for mysterious lands in the sky

I frolic in wonderlands no one has been

Trying to find myself, someone no one has seen 

It was only a matter of time, before I could see,

everything I had ever been looking for was already within me.
