In this week, I finally got to finalising my book cover design. I was overall pretty satisfied with the outcome as I got to learn a lot throughout this project, especially through trial and error and adjusting certain elements on my book cover to get the desired result. Overall, I enjoyed conducting this project and found it extremely interesting to dive deep into the world of a book cover designer.
The final product:

Because I couldn’t create a physical and tangible version of this book cover design, I began photoshopping and reimagining it in realistic scenarios. Creating mock ups of the design on actual books, below are the prototypes:

Conducting this project gave me a different perspective on my choice of stream: Communication Design. Researching the multiple streams and creating my own perspective and way of approaching it, this helped me understand facets within it that inspire and drive me. I got to look at the multi-faceted stream of communication design through a more holistic perspective and lens. By branching out and investigating the different streams, I understood the main premise behind the project which was to break down crucial elements and understand what we are investigating ourselves. By doing this, I got a first hand experience of designing a book cover and understanding the elements that make it a whole. This helped me look at my choice of discipline and the parts that come under it more efficiently but also allowed me to conduct an in depth analysis which challenged me to question what exactly my discipline enables me to focus on and what it offers. In this case, its Book Cover designing. By experimenting with the different components of a book like visual hierarchy, typographical placements, visual representations, illustrations, etc, I got to understanding what exactly makes a novel’s cover cohesive in the best way possible.
