In the second week of sustainable systems, we got to present our creative illustrations based on sustainable and unsustainable products in our daily life. I came up with the idea of creating a flash card booklet. I illustrated the harmful products people use, wrote down their harmful effects on the environment and then came up with a more sustainable alternative for each one, noting down its positive impact on the environment.
The products that I discussed were:
Batteries (Harmful): consists of acid, lead lithium and several other toxic chemicals that when released into the environment can cause soil degradation and water pollution.
Rechargeable Batteries 🔋 (solution): consume up to 23 ties less non renewable energy and resources than disposable batteries.
Polyester (Harmful): Uses harmful chemicals including carcinogens when emitted into the atmospher and water can cause significant damage to its quality and can be harmful to its users.
Cotton (solution): natural fiber, therefore is renewable, replenishable and biodegradeable.
Plastic (In tampons and sanitary napkins): 90% of the plastic which contaminate the environment contains dioxins that cause air, water and soil pollution.
Rubber (Menstrual cup): Zero waste. Can last up to a decade. Made of rubber + Latex and can be resued. It also reduces plastic waste and the emission of toxic chemicals from other sanitary napkins that harm the environment.
