In the ninth week of our classes, we began our new project. We began learning how to analyse movies. In order to gauge a better understanding of the dynamic of movies, I learned that there are certain parameters we need to take to follow this process. You can understand the narrative of the story, the characters, symbolism within the plot along with recurring themes and metaphors. Movies also use audio sounds, songs, lyrics and music to convey messages and ideas along with dialogue and languages. In this session, we watched a documentary called Harishchandrachi factory a Marathi movie, released in 2009. The movie narrates Dadasaheb Phalke’s struggle to release India’s first movie in the year of 1913.The movie is a mix of Comedy and Drama. According to me, the movie symbolises perseverance and resilience. It also explores the power of story telling and how important it can be to the progress of a community and country. A recurring theme that I liked throughout the movie was loyalty. How its important to be loyal to your land and want the best for it. A recurring motif that I learned from was also perseverance and diligence in doing a task. Dadasaheb never gave up and was always insistent on making a film and telling a story, which could also be the initial moral of the story.
