In the final week of our history classes, we got to present our work as well as look at everyone else’s design interventions. It was interesting to learn about the different design interventions and ideas expressed by everyone. Creating this design intervention was definitely challenging, although in a good way. I got to enhance my skills in understanding how to better a product in history, as well think of several aspects such as material research, structure design, etc. I also understood elements that make a product design useful:
- durability
- innovative
- simple to understand
- stable structure
- appropriate use of material
- user friendly
I got to use my knowledge to reimagine historical designs further which was hard, but got me to be more creative with what I had. Especially when working with the amphora, I began researching way to enhance the perfect product which didn’t seem to have any faults. I then got to create the design intervention by thinking of a label to go on the lid of the amphora in order to make it easier for the people to know who the manufacturer of the contents within the amphora is. Below is the design intervention of the Amphora:

Another historical object I worked on was Venus de Milo. It was originally painted during the renaissance period but the colour had faded due to being exposed to the atmosphere and being buried for too long. I suggested the design intervention here to be for the material for painting the marble to be changed.
