In the last week of our Product design class, we got to creating out prototypes. I planned on taking my bag design to another level and creating a concept for it. I found a polyester case, similar to the elastic texture that can be stretched and serve as a way for the user to store more items in it than a cloth bag. I found a bag in my house that was quite fragile and couldn’t really hold many contents, because it was made out of cloth:

I order to alleviate this issue, I began researching materials that can act as an alternative to make this bag stretch further more in order to hold more contents.

I came across this polyester bag, which could hold more contents, as well as open wider and stay more flexible. I began stitching this pink bag to the red bag’s base and front, and cutting out the front. This means that now the pink bag has become the “holder” and can sustain more items than the previous bag.
When I attached this material to the red bag, I realised that a major aspect of becoming a product designer in being innovative and coming up with quick and fast improvisations and solutions in an aesthetic manner. It took me time to develop this skill, and in the end I was quite happy with the way I could improvise and increase the space capacity of my old bag without making it look “fake” or hastily done.
This was how the bag looked from the top, you can see that it could clearly hold more contents than the previous design which could not:
