In this week of our sustainable systems classes, we got to collate all of our information and combine it into a well versed presentation. Because our zine was mainly graphic and visual, we wrote information for each of our slides and posters and created an in depth analysis of why having good nutrition and food habits is important. Here’s what I wrote:
What is it?

Nutrition refers to the daily intake of the necessary doses of vitamins, minerals, protein, calcium, iron, etc. It is important to maintain certain food habits, especially throughout your childhood as this sets a precedent for your health in the future. Having the right amount of nutrition enables you to lead a healthy and nutritious life without acquiring any deadly diseases or disorders.
Why is it important to eat breakfast?

Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, helping you burn calories throughout the day. It also gives you the energy you need to get things done and helps you focus at work or at school. Those are just a few reasons why it’s the most important meal of the day. Many studies have linked eating breakfast to good health, including better memory and concentration, lower levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol, and lower chances of getting diabetes, heart disease, and being overweight.
The Process
After writing our prompted slides, we then collated them into one document and began conducting our process. I wanted to mainly target a younger audience and so I interviewed my sister (age 20), Ayona (age 18), Kahlaan (age 12) to keep the age group close to the aim (10-18). By conducting this presentation, I was surprised by how much information I could gather myself and convey to my audience. Basic facts like how your plate should look everyday, how regular your meals should be, how much food you should have, what nutrients are in the food and how to acquire these nutrients were unknown to the audience, and hence I thought it to be important and crucial to impart this to them with the help of visuals. Holistically, especially Kahlaan, i noticed learned better through visuals and the posters my group and I created, I learned that this is the best way to teach children because they can relate to visual in an efficient way and implement their understandings in real life.
