In the the fifth week of our classes, we continued creating designs for our prototypes. As I kept improvising, I remembered one of the biggest problems I, along with my friends used to have in school. We used to carry Vans bags to school, but after 6 months or so, they began to chafe and tear from the bottom, spilling all of the contents out of mine and my friends’ bags. I decided to take this issue into consideration and create a better design for the Vans bag. I realised that the problem was not with the company, but with the material that the company uses to create them: cloth. I began looking at durability of bags, and what makes them sturdy and last longer. I came across the material PVC- Polyvinyl chloride that has a strong durability and also has the aesthetic appeal. I thought about replacing the cloth that holds the contents of the bag, with PVC. This would make for more space. Furthermore, I also though about adding an extra zip to the schoolbag that will increase the amount of space, like how suitcases do. This will make it easier for the students to carry all of their books hassle free.
Below is the design for this bag:

By conducting this exercise, I realised how sketching is extremely crucial for the process of creation, especially when it comes down to product designing. There should also be a user interface, or else the product won’t be able to resonate with the users and will be futile.
