In this class of Objects as history I focused on collating my ideas and information about the six mind maps we were supposed to make individually. I began looking through objects and aspects of history that are representative of a civilisation and symbolic of their cultures and narrowed it done to the art (paintings), sculptures, pottery, monuments, fashion (choga), and necklaces.
The mind maps:
By exploring these aspects and creating mind maps about them, I got to gain a more holistic idea on these aspects. I learned how they are multi-faceted, and can have several elements that come underneath it. I also learned how to compare and contrast the different styles/history of the civilisation and what makes each civilisation unique to itself through these aspects. By far the most interesting aspect of this assignment was understanding what makes them so different and the reasoning behind methods of creating clothing, pottery or anything. I got to get a quick glimpse in the past and comprehend the importance of these elements and several other ones that make up history.
I then went ahead and narrowed these elements down to 2 objects in history that I could compile into my final design intervention history booklet. I chose to create my design intervention on the Greek sculpture Venus de Milo and talk about its significance to the stream of communication design and the Amphora and its significance to the stream of product design.
