In the twelfth week of our classes, I planned on creating the rough ideations for my book cover design. In order to do so, I thought it would be important to first look up inspiration for these just as I did for my tunnel box which really helped me ideate my final product in the end. Looking for inspiration, for me is important as it helps me understand what exactly I want to create and assemble my ideas methodically.
Book cover inspirations from existing books:

I then went ahead and began ideating my own book cover designs. Knew that I wanted to use colour as one of the most important elements in the designs. I wanted to impart a bold message through the colours and let the colors themselves convey a theme or narrative to set a precedent for the book depending on the genre. The genres I narrowed my 5 iterations down to were:
1. Young Adult
2. Fantasy
3. Thriller
4. Mystery
5. Horror
Below are the Design I made:

Cosmic Girl (Fantasy)
The Skulls Within (Horror)
Dead Roses (Mystery)
The House that was Never There (Thriller)
Caustic Lights and Traffic Lights (Young Adult)
Above I used my knowledge on propaganda through illustrations by using colours to impart and covey messages, themes and genres. I’ve used red and black the most in the thriller, mystery and horror covers in order to give off an ominous vibe. Whereas for the fantasy and young adult novels I’ve given the covers a more colourful and bold look to set a precedent for the narratives. For me, working with colours especially while illustrating is very important because it helps in creating not only a whole but also helpful in order to shed light on the different genres on the spectrum.
