As we got introduced to our latest topic this week, I began taking reference of the articles shared with us in order to comprehend the main elements of the essay. After reading the article on Graphic Design I got to learn the core elements that make it a whole: strong arguments supported by evidence and ideas, analysis of evidence and learning, applications, and the complete structure of it (body, paragraphs, introductions, etc). By taking forward our skills in seminar as professionals we can learn to communicate our ideas on a more effective and efficient level and be able to analyse visual data. Most importantly, it will also help us communicate our notions and ideas in a more coherent manner.
Furthermore, I began reediting my inquiry questions and polishing them further by narrowing it down to even its core elements:
1. Could illustrations on book cover designs possess the capability to communicate visual proficiency?
2. Should book cover design illustrations be enough to convey an idea merely through its visual hierarchy?
3. Would illustrations be considered a form of rhetoric?
This class taught me and enabled me to view the topic of design as a kaleidoscope with different perspectives and views points, with each arrow pointing to different ideas and subtopics. It taught me to dig deeper in to the understand of design and question how it forms opinions and ideas in the world and how different people can perceive these ideas.
