In this session of our seminar classes, we further investigated and began learning what an inquiry question and a knowledge question can mean to further comprehend the fields we plan on considering for our sophomore year. The topic I narrowed my research down to was illustrations, mainly in books, however, I wanted to explore the significance of illustrations in particular. Below is the process of my creating my knowledge and inquiry questions:
My Knowledge Questions
1. In what ways do illustrations help impart ideas, without the help of any secondary source?
2. What is the primary purpose of illustrations on books?
3. How did illustrations become a common trend and theme in order to make books a complete whole?
My Inquiry Questions
1. Could illustrations become more significant than writing in the future?
2. Could a book illustration sway its viewers into being biased towards certain aspects in society?
3. Would illustrations be considered a form of rhetoric?
Conducting this exercise helped me further understand and dissect the topic of Illustrations. I learned that it is an interrelated term with several facets under it that help the viewers build their own ideas around. I also learned of how subjective it can be and can create propaganda, too. I then began dissecting it further. I think that I need to create a narrower, more intricate questions and aspects tat explore the topic of illustrations further through these questions.
