This week I got to start working on my zine. I chose to create my zine on photoshop because of the brush tool. The brush tool was the primary tool that I used to create this zine. During this process, I also learned a lot of default shortcuts. Such as the eyedropper tool, which lets you pick the exact same coded colour. This was really helpful to make my zine since I had to repeat characters more than once and also had to re-access certain colours. Today I finished making my zine’s cover-page (sans the title). Making the character design from scratch was at first challenging, but as I got to practice the different facial expressions on paper and digitally, it eventually got easier for me to draw.
I chose to make the topic of my zine “Brown Girl Problems”. I chose to explore this serious epidemic in a comical and sarcastic manner, to convey a message in a fun and not so subtle way. As a brown girl myself, I thought of this topic to be very personal to me, too and chose to express my perspective on it through my art.
